Proud of Being Vietnamese
I am Vietnamese but more than a label, it is both my strength and my softness. It is the quiet foundation beneath everything I do. I’m incredibly proud to be Vietnamese because it means I come from a culture that honors family, beauty, and tradition. Though I was raised in a traditional household, what truly shaped me were the everyday moments: being surrounded by love, experiencing the value of hard work, and sharing meals filled with stories passed down through generations. Whenever I hear the Vietnamese language, celebrate Lunar New Year (Tết), or watch my mother prepare a dish rooted in history, I feel deeply grounded. That connection to culture is not just part of who I am, it is my home.
Growing up, I didn’t always know how powerful it was to be connected to your roots. As I got older, especially stepping into creative spaces, I began to see how much of what I love such as sense of color, storytelling, and style had everything to do with my Vietnamese heritage. From Ao Dai silhouettes to the way we honor our ancestors, my culture is filled with beauty.
In a world that is constantly moving faster, being Vietnamese reminds me to slow down and find meaning in small, intentional things. Our traditions are rich with symbolism and heart. From the way we give red envelopes as blessings during Tết to how we prioritize elders at the dinner table, there is a quiet grace and dignity embedded in our rituals. These values extend into how I move through the world into my work, relationships, and the way I present myself. There is strength in honoring where you come from, and I carry that strength with humility and pride.
To me, culture is everything. It’s not only about where you are from, but how you live, what you choose to pass down, and how you make others feel. Being Vietnamese has shaped the way I perceive beauty, lead with empathy, and express myself creatively. It has given me a lens to appreciate details, to find purpose in symbolism, and to value both resilience and tenderness. I’m proud to share this part of myself in everything I do—from the way I speak, to how I design, to the stories I tell.
Fashion has become one of my most powerful tools for cultural expression. Whether through modern reinterpretations of the áo dài or subtle nods to traditional silhouettes, fabric choices, or colors that hold cultural meaning, fashion allows me to celebrate my heritage in both quiet and bold ways. Vietnamese culture values elegance, intention, and storytelling qualities that deeply influence my personal style and creative work. Fashion, to me, is another form of language. And through it, I honor my roots while crafting my own narrative.
I am Vietnamese, creative, emotional, and strong. I am the daughter of women who knew how to create joy even in hard times, who made something out of nothing with grace and ingenuity. That legacy lives in me. It’s the energy I bring into every room, every project, and every relationship. It is my foundation, my inspiration, and my strength and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
